Description In pre-war times, Asakusa was recognized as the busiest downtown street in Tokyo. It is now popular among tourists from abroad as a city where you can feel the mood of the Edo period. Located in the center of Asakusa, there is the oldest temple in Tokyo, Sensoji. At the end of Edo period, shops and playhouse were established in the premise, street performers were there, and this place which is to be called Nakamise later on, has been playing a role of entertainment for common people. There are a lot of souvenir shops in Nakamise for the tourists today.
